"I resigned from Kiss honourably. It is now time to move on. You don’t expect everybody to be happy with this decision," he says, admitting that his decision was not received kindly by his former boss. He had signed a 10-year contract with the station.
"I had signed with Kiss that I would serve in the station as Nyambane for 10 years. Now they are claiming I should not use the name wherever I land my next job. But Kiss did not make Nyambane. How can anyone divorce the name from me?" he wonders.
He cautions the station about creating another Nyambane character to replace him.
"You can’t replace a creative mind. You can only build another. It has taken me seven years to create the Nyambane character. This is now part of my real life and there is nothing I can do about it," he affirms.
It certainly looks like the new beef between Nyambane and the station take a while before it cools down. The friction has seen the station put up radio adverts in search for a new presenter, emphasising that the prospective presenter should not be a clown. This is viewed by critics as an attack made to demean Nyambane.
"I don’t take offence in any of these. Moving out of Kiss can only help create opportunity for a new talent. But it’s good for people to stop looking at me as a Kiss FM property. Beyond Kiss, I’m still a public figure. I’m an entertainer – a musician, an actor and a label manager," he says.
Nyambane neither denies nor confirms that he and his boss and co-presenter, Caroline Mutoko, had developed a rift which engineered his departure from the station. In fact, word has it that immediately after Nyambane handed in his resignation, the two were not in talking terms off air.
"I could not tell her that I wanted to resign although we worked together. Where on earth do you informally tell your boss that you want to resign – they will always sack you before you make such a move."
