Songstress Mariah Carey has made Billboard chart history by smashing Elvis Presley's record for No. 1 hit songs.
Mariah moved past Elvis, claiming second place for the most No. 1 songs in the rock era. The diva's latest single, "Touch My Body" jumped from No. 15 to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming Mariah's 18th No. 1 song.
Her album E=MC2 hasn't even hit shelves yet, but when it does, Mariah might just tie the Beatles' record of 20 No. 1s before the new set drops.
The hit record "Touch My Body" also had a record-setting debut week, with a digital tally of 286,000 downloads. The song scored No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs and even outshone labelmate Rihanna's summer banger "Umbrella," which counted a whopping 277,000 downloads.
Presley also lost his standing as the artist with the most top 10s in the rock era, as Madonna took that title with her 37th top 10, "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake.
But the news isn't just history for the Mariah and Madonna. It's a milestone for the charts, too. This is the first time since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003 that two titles debuted simultaneously on Hot Digital Songs, each with more than 200,000 downloads. It also marks the best single-week digital tally in either artist's career.
E=MC2 hits stores April 15.
