Since no one seems to be giving credible reasons why Akon booked out on us,yet again,WE have done our own research.A panel of experts and inside sources revealed possible explanations and reasons why the Senegalese-born US artiste Aliaune Thiam pulled a non-attendance.
The organizers,Bushstock Entertainment,EABL,Virgin Atlantic and Carnivore confirmed that the artiste did not board the plane. In short,Akon missed his flight to Nairobi.Word is,Akon was purported to be watching a movie in Europe when he missed the connection.
However, him missing a flight does not add up because they could easily have chartered a jet to fly him in without breaking a sweat.Unproven word making the rounds claim that Akon was denied a work permit and a Visa. This was attributed to his so-called gangster-thug past.
An inside source within the Kenyan Embassy said:"Mostly it was because he tossed a teenager off stage onto a crowd."Akon ems to be having thesame problems at Cayman too.Akon's fans in Cayman Island will also have to wait a little longer to watch him live on stage. The reason is,his scheduled performance this weekend on March 22 has been postponed due to delay in acquiring a temporary work permit pass.Another rumor alleged the cancellation was due to contractual disagreements between Akon's management and Kenyan promoters.
An aide in the organizer's camp said:"Akon's management did not agree with some of the clauses in the contract and hence called off the whole deal."And finally the other professed reason why the rapper left us in suspense was that the agents contacted by the Kenyan promoters to contract Akon were not the direct or correct agents."When Akon's management found out about the Kenyan concert deal, they called everything off,"said a source.
The musician first played truant with Kenya back in June 17,2006 after performing in Dar Es Salaam. The reason:Kenyan promoters failed to pay him some $70,000 fee.The Konvict CEO was supposed to jet into Nairobi last August for a concert organized by Rani Jamal. The organizer postponed the show three times before they finally settled for December22 2007 at Impala Club grounds.
Another promoter Sam Lentz allegedly undercut Rani.Lentz then 'hijacked' the show and took over the gig. When the day arrived,Akon was a no-show,again.The excuse given by Lentz:"Post election violence."The real reason behind the show backfiring was lack of financial backing. Now,WE wonder if Akon will ever perform in Kenya.
